Job summary

West Virginia is seeking a Transportation Worker 2 to join the Expressway Sign Maintenance Crew. The role involves fabricating and installing traffic control signs, setting signposts, and erecting barricades for construction and maintenance projects.

You will operate tools such as a hydraulic post driver, chop saw, and torch, and may work with electronic signal systems and detour signage. Applicants should have two years of related experience or a vocational program substitute.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in roadway maintenance, traffic control, equipment operation or the fabrication of aluminum /other metal parts / other fabricated materials, comparable to the work performed by the Division of Highways.
• Substitution: Completion of an approved vocational school program may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and install traffic control signs and supports.
• Install and remove signposts and erect traffic control signs and barricades for construction and maintenance projects.
• Operate equipment for sign installation such as a hydraulic post driver, chop saw, torch, and hand tools.
• Assist in setting up lane closures, road closures, and detours and flag motorists through work zones.
• Operate highway maintenance equipment as needed and perform related duties.
