Job summary

Traffic Control Officer
Position Summary

The Traffic Control Officer is responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic at a major medical facility and surrounding public roadways. This position supports safe, efficient, and customer-focused traffic operations by managing traffic flow, assisting patients and visitors, and helping maintain access to the facility. Traffic Control Officers work closely with the Traffic Control Supervisor to respond to changing traffic conditions, construction impacts, and operational needs while maintaining a safe environment for the public, employees, and contractors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic in designated areas.
  • Maintain safe and efficient traffic flow while minimizing congestion and delays.
  • Provide professional customer service and assist patients, visitors, employees, vendors, and contractors with directions and access information.
  • Monitor traffic conditions and immediately report safety concerns, incidents, operational issues, and unusual activity to the Traffic Control Supervisor.
  • Follow established traffic control plans, operational procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Adapt to changing traffic patterns, roadway closures, construction activities, and special operational requirements.
  • Assist with managing vehicle access points, loading zones, drop-off areas, and restricted-access locations as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, vendors, and facility representatives to support operational objectives.
  • Support traffic control operations during construction projects and assist with traffic rerouting as directed.
  • Maintain situational awareness and proactively identify conditions that may impact safety, traffic flow, or facility access.
  • Respond professionally to customer concerns and requests for assistance in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Accurately document incidents, hazards, equipment issues, and operational concerns when required.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and immediately report damaged or missing equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of traffic control and facility operations.
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, facility personnel, and members of the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid California driver's license with at least two years of driving experience.

Physical Requirements
