Salary Range:

$120-$150k+ (flexible/based on experience) + bonus + benefits + other perks



Position Summary

The Trading Operations Manager is responsible for managing natural gas nominations, scheduling, and physical flow operations across pipeline and storage networks. This role combines day-to-day nominations and imbalance management responsibilities with Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system administration and serves as a key backup for settlement functions.


The position works closely with trading, marketing, and middle-office teams to ensure accurate and efficient physical gas operations.


In addition to daily operational responsibilities, the individual is expected to leverage AI and automation tools to streamline routine processes, improve accuracy, and increase operational efficiency. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, ownership-oriented approach in a fast-paced energy trading environment.



Key Responsibilities


Nominations & Scheduling


  • Manage daily nominations and scheduling activities across natural gas pipelines while consistently meeting pipeline cycle deadlines.

  • Ensure all gas purchases have appropriate delivery points and all gas sales have corresponding supply points.

  • Accurately enter nominations data into systems maintained by pipelines and point operators.

  • Provide timely reporting of pipeline physical positions to the trading team.



Pipeline & Imbalance Management


  • Collaborate with gas marketing teams to minimize imbalances and proactively communicate operational issues.

  • Balance pools and maintain effective working relationships with pipelines, customers, and related stakeholders.

  • Support settlement activities related to pipeline and storage invoice reconciliation.



ETRM System & Operations


  • Enter operational data into the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system.

  • Assist other departments with ETRM system activities as needed.

  • Partner with middle-office teams to ensure all physical gas flows are accurately captured and booked within the system.



Automation & Process Improvement


  • Utilize AI and automation tools to streamline repetitive tasks such as nominations entry, reconciliation preparation, and standard reporting.

  • Partner with internal teams to enhance ETRM capabilities and automate pipeline nominations processes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and scalability through technology-driven solutions.



Back-Office Support


  • Monitor pipeline Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBBs) for maintenance events and critical notices; analyze and communicate impacts to stakeholders.

  • Serve as a key backup for settlement and other back-office functions, including:

  • Statement review

  • Ensure operational continuity during employee absences and peak workload periods.

  • Perform additional projects, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.



Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience scheduling natural gas on Gulf Coast pipeline systems.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and geographic regions.

  • Ability to thrive in a small-team environment while contributing as a collaborative team player.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Experience utilizing AI, workflow automation, scripting, or similar technologies to simplify and automate routine business processes.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Horizon, Allegro, or similar ETRM platforms.

  • Knowledge of or experience supporting LNG operations.

  • Experience scheduling on Texas intrastate pipelines, including DART systems.

  • Understanding of natural gas market fundamentals, including:

  • Supply and demand balances

  • Regional basis markets

  • Weather-driven demand impacts

  • Familiarity with transportation and storage economics and asset optimization.

  • Working knowledge of risk management and hedging concepts, including:

  • Position management

  • Mark-to-market valuation

  • Profit and loss drivers

  • Awareness of NAESB standards and applicable FERC regulations governing physical natural gas transactions.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn additional back-office functions and develop broader commercial and trading support expertise over time.
