Flagler County is seeking a skilled trades position under the supervision of the Chief of Trades – Construction, performing advanced repairs and maintenance on county buildings and facilities. This role requires journey-level ability in multiple trades and the capacity to work independently with accuracy and safety.

Applicants should have 5–7 years of construction experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and preferably a Class B Florida CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 5–7 years of experience in skilled construction and building maintenance.
• Class B Florida Commercial Driver’s License preferred; CLP within 3 months and CDL within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Perform highly skilled cement and concrete work, including form building and reading blueprints.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief of Trades – Construction, this position encompasses very frequent physical labor in advanced, highly skilled and complex repairs, maintenance, construction and improvement projects for County buildings and facilities. Employees in this classification perform at journey level and have previous experience in the trade (e.g. electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, concrete, roofing), and can perform tasks independently, though work remains subject to review and inspection during and upon completion of assigned tasks. Positions in this class represent the most complex and most difficult of the trades occupations.

Essential Functions

• Performs highly skilled cement and concrete work for structures, sidewalks, paths, equipment, and any other County facility. Responsible for digging, trenching, concrete finishing, form building, framing, and reading blueprints.
• Performs routine to moderately complex construction and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment curbs, sidewalks, paths and other County property in skilled trade disciplines.
• Performs various semi-skilled carpentry tasks (i.e. hangs doors, framework), installs and finishes drywall.
• Performs plumbing work in repairing valves and fixtures, repairs and replaces old lines or broken fixtures, installs pumps and performs underground utility work.
• Installs, maintains, alters, repairs and replaces various electrical and mechanical equipment (e.g. wiring systems, public address systems, switch panels, flood lights, ornamental lights, starters, electrical motors)
• Operates heavy equipment and machinery as designated by the assigned work area (e.g. dump truck, bobcat, loader, excavator, bucket truck, lift)
• Ensures all work performed complies with applicable codes, standards and requirements.
• Performs repairs and installs air conditioning equipment.
• Performs related work as required.
• In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and shall be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5 to 7- years of experience in highly-skilled construction work, building maintenance and repair in one or more of the trades; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Possession of Class “B” Florida Commercial Driver’s License is preferred. As a condition of continued employment, a (CLP) Commercial Learners Permit must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire and a Class “B” Florida Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained prior to the end of the one-year probationary period.
