Job summary

The City of Mount Dora, FL is seeking a skilled tradesworker to support maintenance programs for city properties, including buildings, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins and parking lots. This is skilled manual work involving concrete, carpentry for form construction, and block and brick laying.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED equivalency required
• One (1) year experience as a general laborer preferred
• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license
• Must obtain, within 6 months of hire date, a Class-B or higher Florida Commercial Driver’s License
• Must complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period
• A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications

Responsibilities

• Establish a maintenance program for City properties, i.e. buildings, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins and parking lots
• Perform all types of manual labor related to roads and streets
• Repair sidewalks and curbs, signs, and streets
• Use hand tools in opening and closing trenches
• Must work safely in congested traffic areas with potentially dangerous equipment
• Responsible for inspection and utilization of all safety equipment provided in accordance with standard operating procedures within the division
• Responsible for the cleaning of buildings and reporting areas
• Constructs, alters, and repairs curbing, sidewalks, catch basins, parking lots and may also lay block and brick
• Makes estimates of time and materials; keeps material and activity records
• General equipment maintenance
• Cleaning up of work sites after job completion
• Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required)
• Performs related functions as assigned

Job Function:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the trade
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to make estimates of time and materials
• Works from sketches and plans; understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Skill in the care and use of tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.
• Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, class-B or higher.
• Must be able to supervise, plan and effectively carry-out assignments relating to all types of repair work.

• Work requires constant standing and walking, frequent lifting of 80 lbs. or more, very frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing.Occasionally work around noxious fumes, chemicals. insects, and excessive noise.
• The wearing of a back-support brace is mandatory with heavy lifting.
