Job summary

Prince George's County Government, Department of Public Works & Transportation, is seeking a Trades Helper I/II in the Office of Highway Maintenance. This role provides entry to full performance skilled and manual work supporting carpentry, masonry, electrical, and other trades under supervision.

As an essential employee, you may be assigned to various craft areas and could be promoted after probation. The position includes operating equipment and assisting in snow and ice operations.

Qualifications

Completion of a standard high school or vocational training course.
Experience working as a skilled craft helper.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Performs manual work in the construction of drainage structures, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and related components.
Assists Masonry Mechanics as needed.
Operates/drives vehicles and equipment requiring a valid driver license.
Maintains vehicles/equipment and performs cleaning.
Completes vehicle inspections and pre/post checks.
Checks tires, fluids, lights and warning devices.
Completes Vehicle Inspection Reports as required.
Reports injuries, accidents and loss/damage of County property.
Participates as an essential employee in Snow and Ice Control and other emergencies.
