Job summary

The role requires JD, active California Bar, 5+ years in trademark/IP law, and a track record in handling luxury brands, tech firms, or influencers. Strong leadership, negotiation, and cross-border coordination are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven track record managing international trademark portfolios and client counseling (luxury brands, tech firms, influencers)
• Strong knowledge of US and international trademark laws (Madrid Protocol), USPTO practices

Responsibilities

• Manage domestic and international trademark portfolios including clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement
• Advise clients on trademark strategies, filings, oppositions, renewals with USPTO and international bodies
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements and provisions
• Represent clients in enforcement actions (TTAB, federal court, ADR)
• Provide strategic counsel on licensing, IP due diligence for transactions, and monetization

We are seeking an experienced Associate to support a fast-growing, sophisticated trademark practice with a significant U.S. and international portfolio and copyright matters. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, proactive Associate who is comfortable managing large portfolios, and experience with representing clients in enforcement actions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage domestic and international trademark portfolios which include clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement actions
• Advise clients on comprehensive trademark strategies, including clearance searches, application filings, oppositions, and renewals with the USPTO and international bodies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements and contractual provisions
• Represent clients in enforcement actions, including TTAB proceedings, federal court litigation, and alternative dispute resolutions (e.g., defending against infringement claims for AI companies or apparel brands).
• Provide strategic counsel on licensing agreements, brand collaborations, IP due diligence for transactions, and monetization opportunities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on copyright, branding, and related Intellectual Property matters.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar (or eligible for admission); additional bar admissions a plus.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in trademark and IP law, preferably in a law firm setting.
• Proven track record in managing international trademark portfolios, litigation, and client counseling (e.g., experience with luxury brands, tech firms, or influencers).
• Strong working knowledge of US and international trademark laws (Madrid Protocol), including USPTO practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in related areas like copyrights, brand enforcement, or equine law (as a niche bonus).
• Recognition in industry publications or awards for IP excellence.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills; ability to build client relationships and mentor junior staff.
• Business acumen, with prior experience in commercial strategy or in-house roles preferred.
• Proficiency in IP management tools and databases.

The expected salary range is $150k to $215k. Compensation offered will be dependent on a variety of attributes including, but not limited to, years of relevant experience, qualifications, skills and expertise, and office location.
