Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Registered (or eligible to register) to practice before the USPTO
  • 2+ years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution preferred
  • Strong academic credentials and technical writing ability

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications across a range of technologies
  • Conduct prior art searches, patentability analyses, and freedom-to-operate assessments
  • Assist in managing and developing global patent portfolios aligned with client business strategies
  • Collaborate with attorneys on IP strategy, due diligence, and litigation support
  • Interface directly with inventors, engineers, and scientists to understand and protect innovations
  • Monitor technology trends and competitive landscapes relevant to client portfolios
  • Support proceedings before the USPTO, including responses to Office Actions and examiner interviews

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Specialist or Patent Agent with a background in either Electrical Engineering or Computer Science to join our Intellectual Property team in Boston. This role is ideal for candidates with strong technical expertise and a passion for innovation who are interested in working at the intersection of technology, science, and law. You will play a critical role in advising clients on patent strategy, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and supporting complex IP matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The expected compensation range will be dependent on a variety of attributes including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills and expertise, job level, office location. The targeted range for annual salary is $80,000 - $115,000
