Job summary

Thompson Tractor Company is seeking a reliable Tractor Trailer Driver to transport parts, equipment, and heavy machinery to customer, vendor, and company locations. The role requires independent work with limited supervision and safe operation of various equipment.

Responsibilities include performing daily vehicle inspections, maintaining logs per DOT, loading/unloading, securing cargo, and documentation including MSDS when needed. OSHA/MSHA training is part of job training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience hauling equipment preferred.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills.

  • Conduct and document daily vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain truck and driving log per DOT regulations.
  • Follow DOT and company safety procedures.
  • Load and unload cargo and properly secure for transport.
  • Prepare cargo documentation, including MSDS for hazardous materials.
  • Drive day and night as required.

Job description

Position Summary

The Tractor Trailer Driver is responsible for transporting parts, components, and equipment to and from customer, vendor, and company locations and job sites. Drivers must be able to perform independently under limited supervision. They will transport earthmoving equipment, diesel engines, electric power generators, lift trucks, and allied products, as well as palletized loads, hydraulic cylinders, final drives, undercarriage components, and tracks. Drivers must safely operate and load all types of equipment and use a lift truck for loading and unloading cargo. They demonstrate initiative, teamwork, customer service, and solutions‑finding. Classification can advance based on attitude, skill level, and performance.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Adhere to basic safe machine operation and inspection.
  • Conduct and document daily vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain truck and driving log in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Follow DOT and company safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance on truck is performed as required.
  • Load and unload truck cargo.
  • Properly secure truck cargo for transport.
  • Ensure proper documentation for cargo, including MSDS for hazardous materials.
  • Follow 5‑Star Contamination Control procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly truck.
  • Keep accurate records of all work.
Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience hauling equipment and operating is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills.

Skills and Competencies

  • Customer service skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computing skills.

Job Training

  • Area‑specific technical training.
  • OSHA and MSHA required training.
  • Compliance training.
Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a customer, vendor, or company shop or at customer job sites. Exposure to physical risk and all weather conditions is associated with this position. Driving for extended periods of time is often required.
