Job summary

North American Rail Solutions (NARS) is seeking Trackman I to join our field crew. This entry-level role focuses on supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of railroad tracks in outdoor working environments.

Ideal candidates are motivated, safety-conscious, able to lift up to 100 lbs, and willing to travel to various job sites. Prior experience in railroad or heavy construction is preferred, and strong teamwork is valued on our projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience in railroad, heavy construction, or maintenance preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and visual instructions.
• Strong teamwork and communication; able to work independently when needed.
• Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs, climb, kneel, and work outdoors.
• Willingness to travel to various job sites, including weekends and overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain railroad tracks, embankments, and related infrastructure.
• Perform track construction and repair tasks such as replacing rail and ties, adjusting switches.
• Operate manual tools and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
• Conduct visual inspections of track components for wear or safety concerns.
• Record work performed and report issues to supervisors.
• Respond to after-hours and weekend callouts for emergency repairs and derailment recovery.
• Assist in re-railing train cars and restoring track integrity.
• Participate in safety briefings and promote safe practices.
• Support site setup and cleanup to maintain a safe, organized environment.
