Job summary

R. J. Corman Railroad Switching Company is seeking a Track Inspector in Ste. Genevieve, MO to join our team. This role involves inspecting and repairing track, operating machinery, and completing required documentation to maintain safe rail operations.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in track inspection or related work, can pass railroad safety tests, and can safely operate power tools while communicating effectively with the team and customers.

Qualifications

• Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.
• Able to pass railroad safety test and training.
• Can safely and efficiently operate power tools.
• Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
• Should be able to multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.

R. J. Corman Railroad Switching Company is currently seeking a Track Inspector to join our team in Ste. Genevieve, MO.

Responsibilities

• Work in conjunction with the Track Superintendent, Track team, and customer to install and repair track; complete other projects as needed.
• Operate machinery in order to adequately inspect the track.
• Complete all required documentation.
• Promote a safe work environment.
• Railroad / switching experience preferred.
• Perform tasks associated with track work including but not limited to: pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, and other track apparatus.

Specialized Or Technical Knowledge, Or Education And Experience

• Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.
• Able to pass railroad safety test and training.
• Can safely and efficiently operate power tools.
• Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
• Should be able to multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform physical strenuous work.
• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs.
• Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force.
• Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force.
• Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
• Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.

Environmental Conditions

• Performs some duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment.
• Frequent exposure to weather elements; and appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
