Job summary

East Cleveland City Schools seeks Shaw Track and Field Head Coach to serve as Principal and Athletic Administrator for the sport and to lead the program in alignment with district policies.

The role involves supervising staff, coordinating with the athletic director, managing equipment, and documenting seasonal progress and improvements.

Qualifications

• Professional preparation: Employment as a teacher or classified with preparation either through experience or college preparation.
• Background Experience: Possess a State of Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit; Possess working knowledge of all aspects of the sport.

Responsibilities

• Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of the program.
• Is in charge of assigning all duties of assistant coaches working under his/her supervision.
• Is responsible for keeping practice periods for the sport within the confines of the time specified by the athletic director and with due consideration to the coaching staff and welfare of participants.
• Is responsible for the general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program.
• Reports periodically while the sport is in season to the athletic director with regard to developments in the program.
• Is directly responsible for the complete inventory of the equipment used for the sport; to be made at the end of the season.
• Writes at the end of the season an annual report evaluating the program with recommendation for improvements.
• Is responsible for keeping records as requested by the athletic director.
• Is responsible for recommending purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as need demands.
• Performs other duties as related to his/her assignments as designated by the building principal and/or the athletic director.

General Statement of Responsibility

The head coach for each sport has the responsibility of carrying on the sport in the best interest of the school district by adhering to Policies and Regulations of the East Cleveland School Board, as well as the practices and procedures of the School Administration. Further, each head coach should have a working knowledge of individual building practices, the Lake Erie League rules, and O.H.S.A.A. rules and regulations.

• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Enforces disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
• Understands that he/she is continually on display and must exercise good judgment in protecting positive coaching behavior.
• Encourage good sportsmanship and desirable pupil/teacher relationships.
