Responsibilities

  • Serve as Varsity Head Cross Country Coach for both the Girls and Boys program.
  • Develop and execute an effective training program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Direct and train student-athletes to enhance performance.
  • Participate in school events to promote the program.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for success.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to develop moral values, pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development.
  • Schedule a full season of contests including State-Tournament Track Meets.
  • Collaborate with School Athletic Office and CPS District Athletics Department as needed.
  • Check the eligibility status of prospective student-athletes.
  • Follow District Athletic Department Policy and Coaches Handbook requirements.
  • Meet all requirements set by State Board of Education, CPS, OHSAA, and ODE for Coaches Tool Chest and PAP.
  • Adhere to administrative policies from the Board, Superintendents, Principals, and Leagues.
  • Provide in-season and out-of-season conduct rules to team members in writing.
  • Model appropriate behavior, timeliness, and constructive criticism.
  • Be appropriately dressed and maintain sideline conduct.
  • Accept constructive criticism and seek improvement.
  • Participate in clinics and activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School Events (Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters, etc.).
  • Demonstrate vitality and good judgment in coaching.
  • Demonstrate competence in sport techniques and adaptability to game situations.
  • Be knowledgeable and seek continuous improvement in coaching methods.
  • Be innovative in using new coaching techniques.
  • Ensure teams are well-prepared for opponents.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.

Job description

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as Varsity Head Cross Country Coach for both the Girls and Boys Program.
  • Direct, train, and motivate student-athletes to enhance long distance running.
  • Direct and train student-athletes to enhance performance in Cross Country.
  • Develop and execute an effective training program.
  • Monitor, mentor, and motivate student-athletes on and off the Circuit.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct and guild student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development.
  • Schedule a full season of contests including State-Tournament Track Meets.
  • Work cooperatively and in a timely manner, with School Athletic Office and CPS District Athletics Department, in regard to all requests for information that might be periodically required.
  • Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
  • Follow District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in job description.
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the State Board of Education, CPS, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) and ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, OHSAA.
  • Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to team members in writing prior to the start of the season. Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to games and practices, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
  • Be appropriately dressed at all times.
  • Maintain suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School Events (i.e., Awards Night Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.).
  • Show physical vitality for the sport as well as use of good judgement and decision-making.
  • Be competent in techniques of the sport so that student-athletes respond positively to directions given.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
  • Be well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
  • Be innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
  • Ensure that team is well-prepared for opponents.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Skills/Essential Functions

  • Previous experience coaching track required.

Training/Certifications
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college.
  • Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check.
  • Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupils Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.
