Job summary

The Town of Stonington is seeking a Town Planner to organize and supervise land use planning activities in the Land Use and Development Department. You will support regulatory agencies, boards and the public while reviewing development proposals and coordinating cross-department reviews.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban, Regional or Community Planning with related coursework and at least three years of professional experience in land use or related fields; a Master’s Degree can

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban, Regional or Community Planning with related land use coursework.
• Three years of professional experience in Land Use Planning or Natural Resource Management preferred.
• Master’s Degree may substitute two years of experience.
• AICP certification desirable.
• Motor Vehicle Operator’s License required.
• Criminal background and drug test conducted during hiring.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct and participate in the activities of the Land Use and Development Department.
• Provide technical support to Land Use Regulatory Agencies, Board of Selectmen, and Land Use Boards.
• Review and make recommendations on land development proposals.
• Coordinate reviews with other departments.
• Consult with town officials, attorneys, builders and the public on proposals.
• Resolve conflicts among parties consistent with Town Planning goals.
