Job summary

The Town of Bridgton is seeking a Community Planner to join the Community Development Department. This role supports land use review, ordinance administration, committee liaison, and community development projects in a small Maine town.

Ideal candidates bring a planning-related bachelor’s degree, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work with residents and boards. This is a full-time, on-site position offering dynamic local impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in planning, community development, public administration, geography, environmental planning, or related field.
• Municipal planning experience is not required.
• Internships, coursework, volunteer experience, or professional experience in planning or GIS will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing land use and development applications and ensure information is provided.
• Research and apply Town ordinances, regulations, and policies to routine planning matters.
• Communicate with applicants, property owners, consultants, and residents regarding planning processes.
• Conduct site visits and review plans, maps, and project materials.
• Prepare staff reports, correspondence, meeting materials, and recommendations.
• Support Planning Board, Board of Appeals, and other boards with agendas and materials.
• Attend evening meetings and assist with records and follow-up.
• Assist with updates to the Town’s Land Use Code and related forms and procedures.
• Stay informed about changes to Maine planning and land use requirements.
• Assist with housing, economic development, infrastructure, and climate resilience projects.
• Support grant research, applications, administration, and reporting (including CDBG).
• Gather and organize community data and information.
• Assist with public outreach, meetings, surveys, and educational materials.
• Help implement the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and other planning initiatives.
