Job summary

The Town of Dumfries seeks a professional planner to provide land use planning, preservation planning, and evaluation of development proposals. The incumbent will perform journey-level planning tasks across diverse projects and assist in policy development.

General Description

The purpose of this position is to provide professional planning services, land use planning, preservation planning, and the monitoring, review, and evaluation of land use development proposals and urban design. The incumbent will provide journey-level professional planning work, working on diverse planning projects and assisting in the development of policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform work reviewing applications, proposals, bids, plans, and reports for land use and zoning ordinance compliance; conduct field investigations; prepare and present reports.

Maintain databases; coordinate interagency reviews, including determining review criteria; analyzing effects of plans on land use, redevelopment, and rehabilitation; and providing technical assistance.

Reviews documents such as tax abatement projects, demolition permits, land use property proposals, applications, and building proposals.

Communicates with members of the community. Provides customer service to citizens, colleagues, civic organizations, private associations and Town administration.

Conducts site visits and takes measurements for purposes such as to develop site plans, floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings.

Coordinates partnerships and services with other Town departments, community partners and businesses to support various department functions.

Performs related work as required
