Job summary

The Town of Hingham is hiring an experienced Town Engineer to lead major infrastructure projects, overseeing planning, design review, construction administration, and contract compliance within the DPW. Salary: $120, 00 to $160,000, commensurate with experience

Schedule: 35 hour work week. Applicant must be available to attend regular night meetings as required.

The Town of Hingham is seeking an experienced and highly capable Town Engineer. This position is responsible for professional engineering work relating to managing and coordinating major Town infrastructure improvement projects.

Duties

Working under the under the general direction of the DPW Superintendent the employee’s work includes, but is not limited to, scheduling projects, reviewing plans and designs, overseeing construction and contract compliance, and managing project budgets. The employee provides technical services to Town departments as needed that include, but are not limited to, site review and planning, grading/drainage analysis, utility installation, and layout. The employee has frequent contact with Town departments, the public, boards and committees, state and federal agencies, and external contractors. The employee is required to work outside of normal business hours as necessary to accomplish the position’s functions and attend regular night meetings as required. Employee is responsible for monitoring the performance of multiple contractors dispersed over several work sites to ensure contract compliance.

Requirements

A candidate for this position must have a Professional Engineer license. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred. Five (5) to seven (7) years of full-time planning and civil engineering, design, construction, and supervisory experience on a variety of engineering projects, especially those involving public works construction under MGL Chapter 30 and 39M (horizontal work) and MGL Chapter 149 (vertical work). Experience working with MA DOT and working within a municipal environment preferred, but not required. The Town may consider equivalent education and experience in determining whether a candidate has met the requisite qualifications.
