Torque Security Calibration Engineer
Job Summary:

Our client in Chelsea, MI is seeking a Torque Security Calibration Engineer for a contract position.

What You Will Do:

The Torque Security VRT (Vehicle Reaction Test) Engineer will design, coordinate, and conduct safety audits for new powertrain applications, including spark ignited engines and electrified systems. Responsibilities include planning and executing detailed electrical and CAN fault injections, generating reports, reviewing test concerns, and investigating software/logic errors. The engineer will analyze complex engine mapping data to resolve system issues related to functional safety, collaborating with engine development, powertrain controls, and vehicle teams. Travel of 1-3 weeks annually is expected for system validation and verification. The core team is based at Chelsea Proving Grounds, MI, supporting global regions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and validate torque security diagnostic strategies to ensure safety compliance.
  • Execute verification test plans to confirm functionality and robustness.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify and resolve safety-related issues.
  • Generate technical reports supporting calibration and validation.
  • Collaborate with calibrators and support root cause investigations.
  • Work cross-functionally to meet program goals.
  • Participate in corrective action meetings for calibration and software updates.
  • Travel 1–4 weeks annually for validation activities.
  • Support vehicle testing and attend meetings at Auburn Hills as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in engine development, powertrain systems, or calibration within the automotive industry.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines and powertrain calibration.
  • Proficiency with calibration tools such as INCA, CDA, X-plot.
  • Ability to read and interface with MATLAB and Simulink models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting to management.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 20%.
  • 100% onsite position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
  • Over 5 years of relevant experience and knowledge of ISO26262 standards.
  • Proficiency in advanced simulation tools and MATLAB/Simulink.
