Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace Savannah is seeking a Toolmaker III for the GAC Savannah facility to construct, rework, repair and inspect a wide range of tools from Engineering/Tool Design drawings. You will lead one to two junior toolmakers and ensure precision through GD&T and exacting measurement practices.

Required are a high school diploma or GED, 5 years of tooling experience, ability to read blueprints, interpret GD&T, and operate tool shop machinery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5 years tooling experience and/or relevant training.
• Must understand and apply shop math.
• Must understand Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing.
• Must be proficient in operating tool shop machinery and precision measuring devices.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• English language reading/writing and comprehension.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate tool shop machinery to fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair tools from drawings; lead 1–2 junior toolmakers.
• Plan layout from engineering drawings and manuals.
• Coordinate interrelated tooling with primary tasks.
• Perform material and cutter speed/feeds calculations.
• Set up and use precision measuring tools; verify conformance to specs.
• Set up tool prove-outs on new/reworked tools.
• Communicate work order status and completion.
• Repair/maintain tooling fixtures, scaffolding, dollies, hoists, and test equipment.
• Conduct visual and periodic inspections and proof loads on tooling.
• Comply with safety regulations; operate cart and forklift.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions:

• Setup and proficiently operate tool shop machinery and equipment to fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair a wide range of tools from Engineering and/or Tool Design drawings. Lead one to two lower level toolmakers .
• Plan and lay out work from Engineering, Tool Design drawings and from specific manuals .
• Coordinate interrelated tooling along with primary task .
• Perform all calculations of material and machine cutters (speeds & feeds) .
• Set up and utilize precision measuring tools; check own work for conformance to specifications .
• Set up and conduct tool prove out on new and reworked tools .
• Communicate with others on work order status and completion of work .
• Responsible for the repair and maintenance of tooling fixtures, scaffolding, dollies, hoists and test equipment .
• Responsible for conducting visual and periodic inspections and proof loads on tooling .

Additional Functions:

• Comply with all safety regulations. .
• Operate cart and forklift. .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

• Must understand and apply shop math. Ability to read/understand complex blueprints, sketches, verbal instructions and tool design.
• Must understand Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing.
• Must be proficient in operating all tool shop machinery and the use of precision measuring devices.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
