Job summary

Daimler Truck North America in Detroit, MI is seeking a Central Tool Processing (CTP) Tooling Engineer to drive tooling strategies, improve quality and reduce waste in a high-demand manufacturing environment.

You will apply expertise in CNC and conventional machining, GD&T, and tool design to support shop floor excellence, Lean initiatives, and collaboration with production, engineering, and union teams.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
• 5–7 years of relevant experience.
• Lean/CI tools and problem solving.
• Extensive tooling background (drills, reamers, taps, mills).
• Machining aptitude to diagnose CNC equipment issues.
• GD&T, CMM reports and process sheets.
• Strong interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality powertrain components and manufacturing excellence.
• Collaborate with machine shop and CTP operations for efficiency.
• Develop tooling engineering expertise in CNC/conventional machining.
• Select, measure, and prepare raw materials to engineering specifications.
• Troubleshoot production, tooling, equipment, and process issues.
• Design, develop, and implement tooling concepts and modifications to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing.
• Participate in shop floor discussions and cross-functional projects.
• Analyze manufacturing challenges and implement innovative solutions.
• Partner with production teams, union leaders, engineering, and management.
• Provide technical guidance on tooling design and processes.
• Establish production methods, layouts, and sequences.
• Conduct process testing, validation, and root cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a positive, collaborative continuous improvement culture.
