Job summary

Vermeer Corporation in Piedmont, SC is seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to design, construct, or repair modular tooling and fixtures for production. You will design tooling with 3D modeling, machining, welding, and assembly processes, inspect prints, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in mechanical trades, experience with fixtures, GD&T, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred.
• Minimum three years of mechanical/technician experience.
• Completion of Vermeer weld or machining training.
• Basic Hydraulics Safety and Introduction to Hydraulics completed.
• Understanding of pneumatic clamping installation.
• Ability to design/build machining, welding, and robotic fixtures.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with on-time delivery.
• Basic knowledge of GD&T symbols and application.

Responsibilities

• Design and build tooling for current and new production needs using 3D modeling, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
• Study prints to determine tooling and customer needs, plan layouts and assembly of tooling.
• Interact with personnel responsible for fixture design, manufacturing equipment programming, welding, and product engineering.
• Resolve quality and manufacturing issues by interpreting data and suggesting productivity improvements.
• Interpret engineering drawings and diagrams; confer with management or engineering staff as needed.
• Review CMM reports and update fixtures based on data.
