Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking engineers and technicians to design production tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn programs. You will apply mechanical design methods, perform analyses, and develop tools that improve quality and throughput across manufacturing and test environments.

Candidates should have a B.S. in engineering and 5+ years of tooling experience, CAD/ FEM skills, and familiarity with DFM/DFA and ASME Y14.5; relocation is provided, and multiple positions are

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years' experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis in addition to the ability to perform hand calculations including the creation of Freebody diagrams
  • Proven experience with CAD based design software for modeling and drafting.
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) including experience taking products from development design to rate production
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines such as CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn business units.
  • Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several projects in a fast-paced environment -- projects will vary in size and scale.
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
  • Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
  • Close collaboration with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve the best possible cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment)
  • Manage projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling.
  • Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
