Job description

Job Description: Tooling Design Engineer

My client is seeking an experienced and innovative Tooling Design Engineer to lead cross-functional initiatives from concept development through production. This role involves designing and modeling foundry tooling—including patterns and core boxes—and enhancing existing product lines. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with creativity to develop cost-effective and manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and model foundry tooling such as patterns and core boxes using CAD software.
  2. Collaborate with product development teams to finalize new product designs aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
  3. Create and manage detailed 3D CAD models (SolidWorks) and 2D drawings for manufacturing and maintenance.
  4. Develop tooling fixtures and machining components based on sketches, renderings, or rough concepts.
  5. Generate layouts and detailed drawings of complex assemblies and mechanical structures.
  6. Maintain pattern design data for existing and new products.
  7. Troubleshoot and resolve technical design issues with creativity and engineering principles.
  8. Coordinate technical activities with internal departments and external vendors.
  9. Evaluate the feasibility of new equipment installations or facility modifications based on technical and economic factors.
  10. Apply current technologies and develop new tooling methodologies.
  11. Document lessons learned and incorporate them into future designs.
  12. Participate in continuous improvement of design and production workflows.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years of hands-on foundry tooling design experience.
  2. 3–5 years of experience specifically in foundry tooling design.
  3. Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  4. Experience with 3D printing technologies (FDM & SLA) and 3D scanning.
  5. Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
  6. Familiarity with materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and electrical components.
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
  8. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  9. Self-motivated with initiative and independence.
  10. Ability to identify design risks and collaborate cross-functionally to mitigate them.

Compensation includes: salary $85K–$95K with yearly discretionary bonus, health, life, dental insurance, and 401K with 3% automatic deposit.

Pay Details: $85,000–$95,000 per year
