Role Overview

The Tooling Engineer 3 ensures the design and development of tools, test equipment, and prototypes required during research, development, and the industrialization of new products. This role also manages the continued operations of existing tooling and testing equipment in Production. The engineer leads the development team to ensure tools, test equipment, and prototypes are designed and built according to program commitments, quality, safety, and cost objectives. They lead supply chain decisions regarding complex make versus buy options and work with suppliers on technical aspects to meet testing requirements. They also define and manage maintenance, storage, and spare parts protocols for tools.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee leadership of tooling and testing equipment requirements for projects in New Product Introduction, Transfers of Work, and Design Updates.
  2. Lead Design and Manufacturing teams to ensure complex tooling, jigs, fixtures, test boxes, and electronic test equipment meet program requirements.
  3. Manage the specification, design, manufacture, and implementation of new tools supporting delivery, cost, quality, and safety objectives.
  4. Lead tooling maintenance and storage protocols.
  5. Coordinate with supply chain for procurement of high-value tools and equipment.
  6. Collaborate with Operations and Program management to ensure production support and tool storage.
  7. Provide input to Design IPTs for components, systems, and programs.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: 7-8 years in highly regulated engineering design or production, with at least 1 year in technical leadership.
  • Computer Skills: ERP systems, CATIA V5 & SmarTeam, Microsoft Office, eMaint, LabView (plus).
  • Other Skills: Knowledge of aerospace materials and processes, engineering drawings, circuitry, electronics, organization, communication, independent work, primary assembly processes, 3D modeling, LEAN tools, Green Belt certification (plus).
