Job summary

Amsted Automotive, Shelby Twp, is seeking a day shift Tool Room Team Leader to support daily manufacturing operations and lead the Tool Room team. The role emphasizes Lean initiatives, coaching, safety, and ensuring quality and efficiency in tooling processes.

The successful candidate will oversee tool room activities, mentor staff, and drive continuous improvements to meet production goals in a busy manufacturing plant environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some college or technical trade manufacturing education preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Blueprint GD&T interpretation of Dies, Details, and Part Prints.
  • Must interpret CMM and gauging information and guide personnel adjustments to maintain part quality.
  • Knowledge of IATF16949, ISO14001, and Q1 compliance criteria to maintain manufacturing environmental standards.
  • Journeyman status or eight years’ experience in Tool and Die Build, Prototype, or Die Repair Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt and promote Lean Manufacturing principles using 5S and Kaizen processes.
  • Support the Company’s Goals and Objectives through continuous improvement action plans and ensuring completion.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and educate personnel in daily Tool Room operations to meet production goals.
  • Provide job instructions for the following standard.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Use problem solving and root cause analysis in mentoring associates.
  • Ensure production requirements are satisfied.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized to meet 5S standards.
  • Formulate permanent corrective actions for operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for a specific area of concentration within the manufacturing environment.
  • Perform other duties as required by Tooling Supervisor and Management.
  • Support daily activities of Tool room personnel.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for leading, coaching, mentoring, and educating personnel in daily Tool Room operations to meet production goals

  • Supports daily activities of the Tool room personnel
What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some college and/or technical trade manufacturing education is preferred
  • Must demonstrate proficiency of Blueprint GD&T interpretation of Dies, Details, and Part Prints
  • Must be able to interpret C.M.M. and gaging information and direct personnel to perform adjustments to maintain Customer Part Quality
  • Possess working knowledge of IATF16949, ISO 14001, and Q1 compliance criteria to maintain manufacturing environmental standards to protect and preserve or customers product and the environment
  • Journeyman status or eight years’ experience in Tool and Die Build, Prototype, or Die Repair Technician

What Else You’ll Need To Know
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction, mentoring, and educating the workforce
  • Must have a positive, proactive and problem-solving attitude
  • Work may require extended periods of sitting, standing, lifting, bending and stooping in both the office and the manufacturing plant
  • Excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with continuous exposure to noise
  • Must be able to work necessary overtime if required
Experience Preferred
  • 8 year(s): Journeyman status or eight years’ experience in Tool and Die Build, Prototype, or Die Repair Technician
Education Preferred
  • High School or better in Education or related field
