Job summary

The Pivot Group Network is partnering with Grandville-based manufacturers to identify skilled Tool Makers who can fabricate, alter, and repair tooling including dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges. The role requires interpreting complex drawings, using CNC and manual machines, and applying GD&T to ensure tolerance compliance.

Ideal candidates will have a formal apprenticeship or 5+ years of experience, with strong reading of blueprints and a track record of precise measurement and problem solving

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, alter, and repair a variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM.
• Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Perform precision measurements using a wide range of inspection tools to ensure part conformity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling performance and production.
• Select appropriate raw materials and heat treatment processes for tool manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineers and production personnel on design improvements and new tool development.

Recommended Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or 5+ years of relevant experience
• Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Strong understanding of GD&T principles
• Expertise in operating manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders)
• Ability to use a wide range of precision measuring instruments

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design.
• Certification in a specialized machining skill (e.g., EDM, CNC programming).
• Ability to read and interpret complex GD&T on blueprints.
• Experience with precision measurement tools beyond basic calipers/micrometers (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
