Job summary

Danfoss in Freeport, IL is seeking a Tool Maker for 1st shift to set up and operate a variety of machines for complex machining with tight tolerances. You will prepare tooling, jigs, fixtures, and repair parts for manufacturing processes.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, operating lathes, grinders, and CNC mills, and inspecting components with precision tools. Apprenticeship or Journeyman’s card is highly valued.

Job description

Danfoss in Freeport, IL is seeking a Tool Maker for 1st shift. The Tool Maker will set up and operate a variety of machines to perform complex machining operations requiring close tolerances. This role involves machining tasks necessary to prepare tooling, jigs, fixtures, and machine repair parts for manufacturing processes.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings or 3D CAD models.
  • Set up and operate machines such as lathes, grinders, and CNC mills.
  • Construct specialized items including jigs, fixtures, metal stamps (dies), and injection molds.
  • Test and measure finished components using precision instruments like micrometers or laser trackers.
  • Repair, clean, and conduct routine maintenance on factory equipment.
What We’re Looking For
  • High School Diploma/GED. 3-5 years’ toolroom experience desired and/or Tool & Die Apprenticeship/Journeyman’s card highly desired.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
