Job summary

Dover Corp in Arlington, VA is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Machinist with 5+ years of die shop experience. You will inspect, design, and set up dies using CNC and conventional equipment, while selecting appropriate metals and reviewing blueprints to plan manufacturing steps.

Prototyping support and maintenance collaboration are expected, with strong attention to precision and quality. Ideal candidates will have proficiency in MasterCam, AutoCAD and SolidWorks, along with metallurgy and heat

Qualifications

  • Requires 5 or more years of experience in Tool & Die machine shop.
  • MasterCam, AutoCAD and Solid Works are essential.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools, layout tools, metallurgy and heat treatment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect Dies: Check for wear, cracks, or damage after production runs.
  • Design die from engineering drawings, sketches or verbal direction
  • Set up and operate conventional or CNC equipment to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
  • Operation of all tool room equipment to make and repair dies.
  • Assist with prototypes from engineering department.
  • Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat treatment properties
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies
  • Assist the maintenance department when needed
  • Weld, measure, heat treat, etc.

Job description

What you will be responsible for in this role:
  • Inspect Dies: Check for wear, cracks, or damage after production runs.

What are the basic qualifications?
  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools, layout tools, hand & bench tools, metallurgy and heat treatment, advanced mathematics I.E. Geometry and Trigonometry
  • Experience with engine lathes, mill machines, jig bore, surface grinders, and press operation.
  • Blueprint reading and familiarity with MasterCam, AutoCAD and Solid Works are essential.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
What are the preferred qualifications?
  • A master-level trade role that involves crafting custom tools, complex molds, and progressive or transfer dies from scratch using blueprints and raw metal stock Some working knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Focuses heavily on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and real-time adjustments of active production dies and stamping presses on the shop floor.

  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and meet deadlines..
Education:
  • One year certificate from college or technical school (Machinist certificate); or equivalent.
  • HS Diploma/GED
Experience:
  • Requires 5 or more years of experience in Tool & Die machine shop. Knowledge of progressive dies a must.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to walk, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Gross manual dexterity (operating a motor vehicle) is also required.
  • Ability to reach with arms and hands; bend, kneel, crouch and/or crawl as well as the ability to see and hear.
  • Able to work night shifts and on weekends when required.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to move about in office, warehouse and manufacturing facilities.
