Job summary

ITResource Hunter is seeking a Tool and Die Technician in Springfield, Ohio to support tooling and production by machining parts to repair dies and tooling. This onsite, full-time role requires hands-on experience with dies, tooling, and metal stamping processes.

You will read blueprints, operate lathes, mills and grinders, install sensors, and troubleshoot tools. Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses required; high school diploma or GED and manufacturing experience are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Studies blueprints to determine machining and plans layout and process.
• Disassembles dies as necessary to repair, sharpen, check clearances, or strengthen die attributes.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Operates forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Follows Lockout/Tagout procedures when responding to press calls.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Tool and Die role supports the tooling department and production department by machining parts to repair metal stamping dies and tooling.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The Tool and Die role requires frequent bending, stooping, stretching, and prolonged standing. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds continuously throughout an eight (8) hour shift. Requires normal vision and hearing range. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Tool and Die work are primarily performed in a factory environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Troubleshoots and repairs production dies and tools.
• Operates machinery (precision and hand tools) required to build necessary parts or repair parts. Knowledgeable in most toolroom machinery.
• Repairs and installs die sensors and safety devices.
• Lays out, fits, and assembles parts to make and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, etc.
• Studies blueprints to determine machining to be done and plans layout and process.
• Has knowledge of stamping dies (blanking, forming, drawing) and understands die timing, pad travels, stripper and binder pad travels/pressures, and timing.
• Performs in-press and bench (Toolroom) die troubleshooting.
• Performs in-press die, sensor, and tooling adjustments, troubleshooting, and changes as required.
• Must have own measurement and hand tools to perform the required duties.
• TIG (Toolroom) welding experience is preferred but not required.
• Must be able to work well and communicate with other shifts (verbally and in writing).
• Must be able to work with production supervisors, team leads, and production associates.
• Uses precision and non-precision measuring instruments/tools to verify dimensions and alignments.
• Disassembles dies as necessary to repair, sharpen, check clearances (cutting or forming), or strengthen die attributes.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Performs duties safely with attention to quality.
• Operates forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are required when responding to press calls.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Toolroom Supervisor and Management.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Experience operating various machinery, including lathes, mills, grinders, and similar equipment, is required.

SKILLS / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

• To perform the Tool and Die role successfully, candidates must:
• Be able to read and interpret blueprints.
• Have a working knowledge of mathematics as it relates to metal stamping dies and tooling.
• Have experience with metal stamping dies and tooling.
• Possess 5 10 years of relevant Tool and Die experience (preferred).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required while performing duties in production areas.
• Basic computer literacy and data entry skills are required.
