Job summary

MDS Staffing is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker for a privately held metals manufacturer in Southwest Minneapolis. As a Grade-A Toolmaker, you'll fabricate, assemble, maintain, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for stamping operations, using CNC and manual machines.

The role requires 5-10 years of hands-on toolmaking, CAD/CAM proficiency, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and mentoring junior machinists.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical school/apprenticeship preferred).
• 5-10 years of hands-on experience in toolmaking or precision machining.
• Advanced skills in manual and CNC machining.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and blueprint reading.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• High precision and attention to detail.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in a physically active role.
• Strong communication skills and ability to train others.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and modify complex tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for stamping.
• Operate CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, surface grinders).
• Interpret and work from detailed blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings.
• Apply knowledge of tolerances, materials, and geometric dimensions.
• Assemble, test, and troubleshoot tooling to ensure optimal performance.
• Perform regular tool maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with production, design, and engineering teams to improve tooling processes.
• Conduct inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM).
• Mentor junior toolmakers and machinists.
• Follow all company safety standards and participate in production meetings.
