General Function:
Build, repair, and maintain dies, tooling, and fixtures to support production.
Job Duties
- Set up and operate all tool room equipment.
- Assist production with problem-solving on tooling issues.
- Build and repair machine shop tools using machining operations and measuring instruments.
- Work from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools, dies, jigs, and molds.
- Build or repair equipment such as dies, die sections, utilizing blueprints, sketches, descriptions, templates, etc.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on tools and equipment utilized in the Toolroom.
- Operate various machines such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts.
- Observe or adjust finished products or equipment as needed on-site.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Working Conditions
Plant environment; working in and out of presses with tooling. Standing and walking up to 100% of work time. Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs, including pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and some stooping.
Education & Experience Requirements
- A Journeyman’s Tool & Die Maker’s card,
- or Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certificate from a U.S. Department of Labor recognized apprenticeship program,
- or 5-8 years of proven experience working as a Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing environment.
Skill & Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and related materials, with good shop mathematics knowledge.
- Ability to set up and operate all tool room equipment, including machinery tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines. Must be able to operate a forklift, hoist, and cranes.
- Able to machine products within correct tolerances and dimensions using proper procedures.
- Experience in loading and feeding steel and material into dies.
- Knowledge in adjusting steel/material alignment in dies and performing re-set ups and die changeovers.
- Proper use of micrometers, calipers, height gauges, thread gauges, and dial indicators.
- Experience with large deep-drawn stamping dies.
- Experience with resistance welding is a plus.
