Job summary

ABB in Saint Louis, MO is seeking a Tool & Die Maker to read blueprints, set up tooling components, and repair dies with precision. You will operate and maintain lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills to fabricate parts and minimize downtime.

The role requires strong math skills in geometry, trigonometry, and algebra, along with metallurgy knowledge. Collaborative teamwork and independent work are valued in this on-site position with shift-based pay.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker.
  • Proficient in operating drills, lathes, milling machines, grinders.
  • Strong knowledge of die assembly, operation, troubleshooting, and repair in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to perform complex mathematical calculations using geometry, trigonometry, and algebra.
  • Solid understanding of metallurgy and metal properties.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills; able to collaborate with engineers and machinists while working independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and design specifications to set up, manufacture, and modify tooling components to required tolerances.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain toolroom equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and drills to fabricate, repair, and finish tools and die components.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, assemble, repair, and test tools and dies to minimize downtime, support production continuity, and respond to equipment breakdowns.
  • Drive continuous improvement, tooling efficiency, and scrap reduction initiatives; maintain accurate records in SAP, follow standard repair procedures, and report recurring equipment issues.
