Job summary

AMETEK, Inc. in Bridgeport, CT is seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to build and repair dies, fixtures, jigs, and tooling used in surgical instrumentation components.

You will interpret blueprints, set up CNC centers and manual machines, train apprentices, and ensure quality by printing conformance and proper documentation. This onsite role requires 6+ years of Die making and CAD/CAM proficiency.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.
• Produce jigs and fixtures and tooling for surgical instrumentation and implants.
• Assist in training for new Toolmakers and Apprentices.
• Set-up & Operate CNC machining centers and manual mills, lathes, grinders.
• Ensure all fixtures, assemblies, and tools are inspected to print and documented per procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead setup and operation of machine shop tools, considering materials, tolerances, tooling, and feeds/speeds.
• Estimate completion times for tasks/projects independently.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and fixturing issues; perform re-work as needed.
• Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain a safe, clean work area and comply with company safety policies.

Job Description

Responsible for assisting Tool Room Lead or Supervisor/Manager with building and/or repairing all types, sizes and shapes of dies, fixtures, jigs and tooling.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.
• Produce jigs and assembly fixtures and tooling with no instruction for use with surgical instrumentation and implants.
• Assist in training for new Toolmakers and Apprentices.
• Set-up & Operate CNC machining centers as well as manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, and other tool room equipment as necessary.
• Responsible for ensuring all assigned fixtures, assemblies, and tools are inspected to print and all documentation is recorded to department procedures.
• Leads and plans the setup and operation of assigned types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
• The ability to perform and complete complex tasks and give an ETA of completion of assigned tasks/projects without assistance from others.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems associated with equipment, fixtures, jigs, tooling and related processes. Also responsible for re-work or repair of all fixturing.
• Complete required preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.
• Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury.
• Responsible to comply with company requirements and complete essential documentation as required

Education and Experience:

• 6+ years of experience Tool and Die making.
• Minimum High School Diploma or GED, Vocational or Apprenticeship preferred.

KSA's

• Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) and/or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
• Problem-solving skills.
• Ability to be a team player.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
• High degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required.
• High degree of attention and care.

Compensation

Employee Type: Hourly
