Job summary

Westlake Pipe & Fittings in Brownsville, TN seeks a skilled machinist to operate conventional machine shop equipment and prepare injection mold tooling. You will read engineering drawings, take precise measurements, select machines, and plan task sequences.

• Certificate of completion from an accredited machine shop or tool and die vocational school preferred.
• Excellent coordination and mechanical skills.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in math.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of metal properties and other material.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains all conventional machine shop equipment (lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc.)
• Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate work
• Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping
• Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task
• Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment
• Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
• Completing checklists for apprentices and Mold Polishers
• Troubleshoot injection mold problems and tooling issues (example: part flashing)
• Responding to and providing solutions for tooling issues causing production downtime
• Calculating tooling stack up from dimensions referenced on engineering drawings
• Making new cutters from raw material
• Maintain accurate record of work activity and time
