This role ensures that tooling is accurate, labeled, available, and ready before jobs begin — and that live floor demands during production are handled quickly and correctly. The Tool Crib Attendant also maintains crib organization, tracks inventory levels, and works closely with the Tool Crib Supervisor and shop floor teams to eliminate tooling-related machine downtime.Key Responsibilities 3:00 PM - 11:30 PMDrive Production ReadinessAssemble and preset cutting tools according to job setup sheets; verify assemblies are correct, labeled, and staged before production beginsCoordinate with 2nd shift machinists and setup technicians to ensure critical tooling is ready ahead of each job start — don't wait for a machinist to come askRespond quickly to live tooling requests during production runs; replenish broken or worn tools without creating delaysCommunicate proactively with the Tool Crib Supervisor and 2nd shift leadership about tooling shortages, quality issues, or pending stockouts before they become emergenciesMinimize machine downtime attributable to tooling — this is the primary measure of success in this roleManage Tool Crib OperationsIssue and receive tooling, holders, inserts, and consumables; accurately record transactions in the tool tracking or ERP system (M2M)Maintain crib layout so high-run tooling is front-accessible and every location is labeled and consistentMonitor inventory levels for fast-moving consumables; escalate replenishment needs early — don't let the crib go to zero on critical itemsSupport cycle counts and physical inventory audits; reconcile discrepancies and report findings to supervisorKeep the crib clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant throughout the shiftSupport the Shop FloorWork directly with machinists and setup teams — learn what they need before they ask, and build relationships that make production run smootherAssist with basic tooling troubleshooting; escalate wear or breakage patterns that suggest a setup or programming issue to the appropriate teamPrioritize all work based on production schedule impact; know which jobs are hot and treat their tooling accordinglyPerform or support basic tool reconditioning (insert replacement, holder cleaning) as directedMaintain safe work practices in all crib and floor-adjacent activities; follow ACME EHS protocols and immediately report any hazardous conditionsRequirementsQualificationsRequired**Ability to work from 3:00 PM through 11:30 PM **Experience working in a manufacturing or machining environment — you understand what happens on a shop floorBasic knowledge of cutting tools (inserts, end mills, drills, holders) or machining fundamentals; willingness to learn more on the jobAbility to read and interpret job setup sheets or tooling assembly instructionsStrong organizational skills and attention to detail — crib accuracy matters; wrong tools cause scrapped partsAbility to work independently and manage time effectively on 2nd shift with limited supervisionPhysical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs; able to stand and move throughout the shiftPreferredCNC tooling assembly or presetting experience (Kennametal, Sandvik, Iscar, or equivalent)Experience in a contract machining, job shop, or high-mix / low-volume production environmentFamiliarity with ERP or tool tracking systems (M2M, Toolroom Manager, or similar)Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified facility2nd shift work history — comfortable with 3:00 PM–11:30 PM hours and the pace of late-shift production
