Job summary

LeoForce in Wallingford, CT is hiring a Tool and Die Machinist. You will build, repair, and maintain injection molds and tooling, diagnose issues, and perform precision machining to keep molding operations running smoothly.

We offer a daytime schedule with potential overtime and a growth path as you increase responsibility within the team. This hands-on role requires experience with tooling and strong measurement skills.

  • Diagnose mold issues including flash, dimensional problems, wear, damage, alignment, and cooling.

Responsibilities

  • Build, repair, maintain, and modify plastic injection molds, dies, fixtures, and tooling to support production requirements.
  • Diagnose mold issues including flash, dimensional problems, wear, damage, alignment issues, cooling problems, and other tooling related defects.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on injection molds to improve reliability, extend tooling life, and reduce production downtime.
  • Disassemble molds, inspect components, identify worn or damaged parts, complete repairs, and reassemble tooling for production.
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and other precision machine tools.
  • Machine, fit, and finish mold components such as cores, cavities, inserts, pins, bushings, slides, and other tooling components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and tooling specifications to complete repairs and modifications accurately.
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Troubleshoot molds with production and processing teams to identify root causes of quality or performance issues.
  • Support mold changes, engineering modifications, and continuous improvement projects to improve cycle times and part quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of mold repairs, preventative maintenance, modifications, and tooling history.

Job Details

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on injection molds to improve reliability, extend tooling life, and reduce production downtime
  • Disassemble molds, inspect individual components, identify worn or damaged parts, complete repairs, and properly reassemble tooling for production
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and other precision machine tools
  • Machine, fit, and finish mold components such as cores, cavities, inserts, pins, bushings, slides, and other tooling components
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and tooling specifications to complete repairs and modifications accurately

  • Troubleshoot molds directly with production and processing teams to identify root causes of tooling related quality or performance issues
  • Perform polishing, grinding, fitting, spotting, and bench work required to bring molds and components back to specification
  • Support mold changes, engineering modifications, and continuous improvement projects to improve cycle times, part quality, and overall mold performance
  • Maintain accurate records of mold repairs, preventative maintenance, modifications, and tooling history
  • Work closely with engineering, maintenance, quality, and production teams to minimize downtime and keep injection molding operations running efficiently
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room while properly caring for machines, tools, and equipment

We are a growing plastic injection molding company looking to add an experienced Tool and Die Machinist to our team. This is a hands on position for someone who has experience working with injection molds and understands what it takes to keep tooling running properly. You will join a small, experienced team with the opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow with the company.
