Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, diagnose, repair, and improve production injection molds to support quality and uptime.
  • Machine, grind, and fit replacement tooling (core pins, ejector pins and sleeves, blocks, cavities, inserts, and wear components).
  • Fabricate and repair mold slides using EDM; grind and polish components to required tolerances and finishes.
  • Recommend tooling or equipment needed to improve repair capability and reliability.
  • Operate manual and CNC lathes, mills, surface grinders, and tool grinders.
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances with micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Disassemble, assemble, and test molds after repair.
  • Interpret prints, sketches, and instructions; adjust components for fit and function.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, engineering, suppliers, and service vendors as needed.
  • Document mold maintenance and repairs accurately.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Job description

Job Summary:

Our client, a precision healthcare instrumentation manufacturer, seeks a Tool and Die Machinist to maintain, repair, and improve production injection molds. This role machines, grinds, and fits replacement components to restore mold performance, protect part quality, and minimize downtime. The ideal candidate works independently, understands mold tooling, and consistently holds tight tolerances.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Maintain, diagnose, repair, and improve production injection molds to support quality and uptime.

  • Machine, grind, and fit replacement tooling, including core pins, ejector pins and sleeves, blocks, cavities, inserts, and wear components.

  • Fabricate and repair mold slides using EDM; grind and polish components to required tolerances and finishes.

Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Journeyman Tool and Die Maker credentials or equivalent experience repairing plastic injection molds.

  • Strong precision machining, grinding, fitting, and measurement skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair production tooling.

  • Proficiency reading engineering drawings and specifications and holding close tolerances.

  • Working knowledge of tool steels, heat-treatment effects, and wear conditions.

  • Ability to prioritize repairs and work independently with minimal supervision.


Other Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience machining hardened tool steels such as D2, S7, and H13.

  • Experience coordinating with material suppliers, welding shops, and heat-treatment vendors.

  • SolidWorks design experience.

  • Full mold design and build capability.


Compensation:

$100,000 to $110,000 per year.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand at machines for prolonged periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Manual dexterity for precision work.
