Job summary

Heyco, a PennEngineering Company, is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker in Toms River, NJ to build, repair, and maintain precision tooling ensuring high production quality. The role emphasizes close-tolerance tool work, development tasks, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications include an associate degree or two-year equivalent with tool & die experience; reading engineering drawings; and solid shop math including basic SPC.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or high school diploma with two years tool & die experience.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Strong shop math and basic Statistical Process Control knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, constructs, alters, and repairs tools, jigs, dies, fixtures and gauges to close tolerances.
  • Performs development work and skilled tool-room operations including fittings, timing, and adjustments.
  • Plans construction procedures and materials and accounts for shrinkage during heat-treating of tools and metal flow in dies.
  • Performs tool tryouts and ensures quality requirements are met.
  • May work overtime as needed and troubleshoots complex dies and tools.

Pay Range: $28.66-$37.31 depending on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, constructs, alters, and repairs a wide variety of tools, jigs, dies, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances.
  • Performs development work, difficult tool‑room operations, skilled fittings, timing, and adjusting.
  • Plans construction procedures and methods and selects materials.
  • Makes allowances for shrinkage during heat‑treating of tools and metal flow in dies.
  • Makes tool tryouts.
  • Follows all departmental procedures to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • May be required to work overtime as business conditions dictate.
  • Diagnoses and corrects trouble in complicated dies and tools.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or high school diploma or GED and two years of tool & die experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings and schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to correctly perform basic shop math, simple trigonometry, and Statistical Process Control calculations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to identify and solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and talk and hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts, loud noise levels, and airborne particles. The employee is required to follow all safety rules and procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and hard‑toed shoes. Additional PPE such as face shields, gloves (general cloth, nitrile chemical resistant, and/or heat resistant) may be necessary based on the tasks being performed.
