Job summary

Avantus Aerospace, Inc. in Valley Glen, CA is seeking a skilled tool and die maker to perform set-ups and machine grind components to support manufacturing lines.

You will work with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures, reading blueprints and using micrometers, calipers and comparators to maintain tight tolerances.

Candidates should have 3–5 years’ experience in tool making with a strong understanding of slip and press fit relationships, and a commitment to safe, organized work.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Shop math proficiency required.
• Must be able to use measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, comparators).

Responsibilities

• Set up and machine/grind components to complete assignments.
• Repair header tools and make header tool components.
• Work with carbide, hardened tool steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Operate mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones and fixtures.
• Maintain clean and safe work area.

Job description

Under general supervision and according to established policy and procedures the tool and die maker is responsible for performing his/her own set-ups and machine/grind all necessary components required to complete assignments given to support all manufacturing product lines.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of slip and press fit relationships.
• Repair Header tools and make complete header tool components.
• Work with carbide, hardened tool steels, dies and cutting tools to close tolerance.
• Work with mills, lathes, surface grinders, hones, and fixtures.
• Use shop math as required.
• Clean and maintain the work area.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

• Shop math
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Use measuring instruments (i.e., micrometers, calipers, comparators).
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a tool maker for a manufacturing facility.
