Job summary

FBSPL is seeking an experienced Tool Technician to support maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plastic injection molds and tooling. The role emphasizes hands-on work with injection molding tools, machining, welding, hydrauliс systems, and mold preventative maintenance.

The Technician will collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime, ensure tooling meets quality standards, and support customer requirements on the shop floor with a focus on safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with plastic injection molds and tooling.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on injection molds.
• Strong knowledge of mold troubleshooting and repair.
• Experience operating Bridgeport mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
• Ability to maintain tight machining tolerances.
• TIG welding experience, preferably with mold/tool steels.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and hydraulic cylinder rebuilding.
• Ability to read and understand tooling and engineering requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on plastic injection molds and tooling.
• Troubleshoot and repair molds both in and out of the press.
• Work directly on the production floor to quickly resolve tooling issues and minimize downtime.
• Perform TIG welding on cores, cavities, and various tool steels.
• Weld and hand-work cores and cavities back to a runnable condition.
• Weld different tool steels, including P-20, H13, S7, and 4140.
• Construct hydraulic lines and rebuild hydraulic cylinders.
• Operate Bridgeport mills and lathes while maintaining tolerances of ±0.001".
• Operate surface grinders to maintain critical details within ±0.0002".
• Polish and bench mold details.
• Safety, housekeeping, and quality standards must be maintained.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Tool Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of plastic injection molds and tooling. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with injection molding tools, machining, welding, hydraulic systems, and mold preventative maintenance.

The Tool Technician will work closely with the production and engineering teams to keep molds running efficiently, minimize downtime, and ensure tooling meets quality and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on plastic injection molds and tooling.
• Troubleshoot and repair molds both in and out of the press.
• Work directly on the production floor to quickly resolve tooling issues and minimize downtime.
• Perform TIG welding on cores, cavities, and various tool steels.
• Weld and hand‑work cores and cavities back to a runnable condition.
• Weld different tool steels, including P-20, H13, S7, and 4140.
• Construct hydraulic lines and rebuild hydraulic cylinders.
• Perform surface grinding, including compound angles, cutting tools, nozzle tips, tapers, and other critical details.
• Operate Bridgeport mills and lathes while maintaining tolerances of ±0.001".
• Operate surface grinders to maintain critical details within ±0.0002".
• Polish and bench mold details.
• Perform hot runner wiring and open vent cleaning.
• Fit new details and perform spotting and timing as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair mold and tooling issues.
• Repair molds and implement engineering changes as required.
• Maintain accurate tooling and preventive maintenance records in the company computer system.
• Work with Process Engineers to troubleshoot tooling problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Work with various departments to support customer requirements.
• Maintain proper safety, housekeeping, and quality standards.
• Work independently with minimal supervision when clear direction is provided.
• Safely handle and work on large injection molds ranging from 800 lbs. to 70,000 lbs..

Required Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with plastic injection molds and tooling.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on injection molds.
• Strong knowledge of mold troubleshooting and repair.
• Experience operating Bridgeport mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
• Ability to maintain tight machining tolerances.
• TIG welding experience, preferably with mold/tool steels.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and hydraulic cylinder rebuilding.
• Ability to read and understand tooling and engineering requirements.
• Ability to work safely with large and heavy molds.
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
