What You'll Do

• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility.
• Assure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and transportation of inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates when necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D.; must have a valid driver's license for transportation positions, or a commercial driver’s license if required to operate commercial vehicles.
• Pass the Correction Officer Assessment or have successfully completed the assessment within the past 24 months.
• Current employees of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction who have been certified as a correction officer also qualify.
• Probationary period of 365 days.

Compensation

Step 1 salary $24.88 per hour, increasing to $25.61 after six months. An additional $0.60 per hour is earned for working 2nd or 3rd shift.
