Job summary

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is seeking a dedicated Corrections Officer in Orient, Ohio. This full-time position offers a rewarding opportunity to ensure the safety and security of the facility, inmates, and staff.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and a valid driver's license. Responsibilities include supervising inmate activities, maintaining security, and conducting regular counts. Starting pay is $24.88/hour with the possibility of additional pay for 2nd or 3rd shift work.

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver's license for transportation positions.
Must pass the Correction Officer Assessment within the past 24 months.
Must complete a 365-day probationary period.

What You'll Do

Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
Assure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
Complete required reports and serve on committees.
Prevent escapes or incidents which threaten security.
Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates when necessary.
Start at step 1 $24.88, moving to step 2 $25.61 after 6 months of employment.
Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working 2nd or 3rd shift.

Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.; must have a valid driver’s license for positions assigned to transportation or a commercial driver’s license for commercial vehicles. Applicants must pass the Correction Officer Assessment within the past 24 months or be current employees of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction who have previously been certified as a correction officer. Probationary period is 365 days.
