Job summary

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is hiring a Correction Officer for the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg, Ohio. This full-time role focuses on maintaining security, supervising inmate activity, and operating security tech and vehicles.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required for transportation assignments; a CDL is required for assignments involving commercial vehicles.
• Must have successfully passed the Correction Officer Assessment or completed it within the past 24 months, or be a current employee who has previous correction officer certification.
• Probationary period of 365 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas.
• Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computer systems.
• Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates.

Compensation
