Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas.
• Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security.
• Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license is required for transportation assignments; a commercial driver’s license is needed for commercial vehicles.
• Successfully pass the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months or be a current Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction employee with prior certification in the correction officer position.
• Probationary period of 365 days.

Compensation

Newly hired Correction Officer will be hired at step 1 ($24.88/hour) and will move to step 2 ($25.61/hour) after 6 months of employment. Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working the 2nd or 3rd shift.
