Job summary

What You’ll Do

• Maintain control of the institution to provide for safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules/regulations/policies and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
• Assure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents which threaten security.
• Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates when necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license required for transportation positions.
• Successfully passed the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months, or current employee with a prior certification in the position.
• Probationary period of 365 days.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting pay of $24.88 per hour (step 1); moves to $25.61 per hour (step 2) after 6 months.
• Earn an additional $0.60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shift.
• Full‑time position.
• Union: OCSEA.
