Job summary

Williamsburg James City County Schools in Williamsburg, Virginia is seeking an Elementary Title I Paraprofessional Reading Tutor to provide part-time, direct supplemental reading instruction to eligible Title I students in grades K-5.

The tutor works under a Title I teacher and coordinates with Title I staff to deliver small-group literacy lessons, monitor progress, and maintain records in support of the school’s Title I program.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate degree or higher.
• Ability to communicate through clear and grammatically proper speech and basic writing and computing skills.
• Knowledge of educational instructional practice and teaching methods.
• Demonstrated knowledge of standard document formats used in the assigned area.
• Safeguards all student and teacher information against unauthorized use or access.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
• Ability to plan and manage assigned functions.
• Proficiency in word processing and ability to use various software programs for instructional use.

Responsibilities

• Follows identified instructional methods as outlined in the approved Title I plan to teach small-group literacy lessons.
• Works under the supervision of a Title I teacher and Title I coordinators as needed.
• Works the identified part-time hours as designated by Title I staff.
• Maintains lesson records, progress data, and reports to Title I teachers when requested.
• Completes training to deliver supplemental reading instruction with fidelity to methods and programs.
• Summarizes student needs, goals, and progress for reporting to parents and staff.
• Maintains a pleasant attitude and professional behavior with staff, students, and visitors.
