Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking a part-time tutor for a Temporary Work Assignment at 16 hours per week for 35 weeks. You will align support with the Virginia Standards of Learning, collaborate with the lead teacher, review topics, support differentiation, provide feedback, and help students improve academic performance.

Bachelor’s degree or teaching license preferred. Background checks required. Compensation is $35.76 per hour with benefits offered to eligible staff.

Qualifications

  • Ability to supervise and support students and communicate effectively with staff.
  • Experience in tutoring or teaching is preferred.

Job description

General Description

TWA = Temporary Work Assignment. This position is scheduled to work 16 hours per week for 35 weeks.

A prospective tutor should show a high level of commitment to providing intervention services designed to support instruction for Chesterfield County students. A college degree for this position is preferred, but is not required. There is a pay differential based on degree status and active teacher’s license.

Physical Demands

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to lift up to 25 lbs. bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Work Environment

The employee regularly works in a school or office setting. The noise level is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications

Requires general knowledge of academic skills. Demonstrated ability to tutor and supervise students. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents and staff and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility without direct supervision; to prioritize work and to follow oral and written instructions.

Additional Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or teaching license preferred. Experience teaching or tutoring is preferred.

Compensation

$35.76 per hour
