Job summary

Rayonier is seeking a Timberlands Forester I to join our team. In this developmental role, you will gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of seasoned forestry leaders, building the technical, financial, and operational skills needed to manage land resources independently.

This entry-level position emphasizes safety, collaboration, and learning across silviculture, inventory, contractor oversight, and property management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Forest Management, Natural Resources, or related field; or an associate degree with forestry experience; or an equivalent combination of education and practical forestry experience.
• No prior professional forestry experience required for candidates with a qualifying bachelor’s degree; willingness to learn.
• Foundational knowledge of forestry and forest management; willingness to develop silviculture, harvesting, forest inventory, and land management practices.
• Basic computer skills; ability to learn GIS and Microsoft 365; ability to collect, organize, analyze, and maintain field data.
• Effective written and verbal communication; ability to establish productive relationships with employees, contractors, landowners, and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Preferred: SAF-accredited forestry program; internship/field experience; GIS familiarity; BMPs; travel and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with budgeting and preparing financial information for silvicultural investments and other forestry projects.
• Track expenditures and communicate variances for assigned activities.
• Support forest inventory activities, data collection, and prescription development.
• Assist with planning and executing reforestation, thinning, herbicide, fertilization, and other silvicultural activities.
• Coordinate field activities and assist harvesting teams as needed.
• Participate in property management activities and environmental compliance.
• Build relationships with contractors, landowners, and others; participate in projects and outreach.
