Qualifications

• One year of clerical experience is required.
• Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN certification required; CMA can be obtained after hire if not yet held; casting training completes within 90 days.
• Able to communicate effectively in English; basic arithmetic skills are required.
• Must be computer literate with basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Directs and escorts patients to appropriate treatment areas.
• Obtains information to aid the provider in patient treatment.
• Prepares patients for casting procedures and explains techniques.
• Assists in minor office procedures such as biopsies, injections, and aspirations.
• Applies, removes, and fits soft goods as directed by the physician.
• Maintains cleanliness and stocking of exam rooms, pods, and cast department.
• Maintains sterilization of clinic instruments.
• Schedules patient appointments and tests as necessary.
• Answers phone calls while in clinic; maintains regular attendance.

DIMENSIONS/SCOPE OF POSITION:

Serves as a physician’s clerical and clinical support to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. Designs, applies, removes, and adjusts a wide variety of casts, splints, soft goods, and other orthopedic devices as directed by the physician

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directs and escorts patients to appropriate treatment areas
• Obtains appropriate information to aid the provider in the treatment of the patient
• Prepares patient for casting procedures and explains techniques
• Assists provider in minor office procedures such as biopsies, injections, and aspirations
• Applies, removes, and fits soft goods
• Ensures exam rooms, pods, and cast department are clean and properly stocked
• Maintains sterilization of clinic instruments
• Schedules patient's appointments and tests when necessary
• Assists in answering phone calls while in clinic
• Regular and predictable attendance
• Ability to work in a cooperative manner with others
• Performs other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education and/or Experience:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required; two years in healthcare environment is required. One year of clerical experience is required.

Language Skills:

Able to communicate effectively in the English language.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic arithmetic skills are required.

Reasoning Ability:

Identifies and resolves problems promptly.

Computer Skills:

Must be computer literate. Basic computer skills required.

Certificates, Licenses:

Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN certification required. Must be able to pass Medical Assistant Certification upon hire at the clinic if certification is not obtained before hire; Successful completion of the casting training program within 90 days of employment is required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Able to listen and respond well to questions and feedback.
