Job summary

Housing Works Inc. is seeking a Thrift Shop Assistant Manager in New York to help lead a busy community thrift shop. You will drive customer service, revenue initiatives, and staff training while embodying our mission and community values.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required and at least one year of work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years prior retail management experience or equivalent experience managing a team.
• Working knowledge of the second-hand market and Housing Works thrift shop product breadth.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal and team-oriented mindset.
• Self-starting, motivated and solutions-oriented approach.
• Commitment to excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Develop strategic and operational objectives for self and others to ensure work is completed efficiently.
• Adjust plan accordingly and celebrate success with the team.
• Ensure that store uses daily focus with staff/volunteer deployment, sales goals, special promotions, and daily to-dos.
• Train and develop skills of all employees and volunteers to ensure standards and goals are understood.
• Recruit, interview, hire, and train all associates with Store Manager.
• Conduct progressive coaching/counseling to meet standards.
• Ensure store is merchandised in line with Housing Works standards and encourage teamwork.
• Recognize talent and develop individuals for advancement within the organization.
• Ensure compliance with Housing Works policies and deadlines.
• Implement customer service programs and greet/donate customers with clear policies and politeness.
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending trainings and self-study.
• Be an ambassador by communicating Mission and participating in community actions.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
